In early 2026, Dan Huff published an op-ed in the New York Post about DEI hiring practices in commercial aviation — specifically, the push by major airlines to hire pilots based on demographic targets rather than merit and experience. The piece was direct. It named names. It made the argument that passengers deserved to know what was happening in cockpit hiring decisions that affected their safety.
The piece worked. The Department of Transportation issued a corrective rule within three weeks of publication. Not because of a petition. Not because of a social media campaign. Because a well-argued piece in a major publication put pressure on the right people at the right moment.
But here is what stayed with Dan after that: the op-ed worked because he knew how to write it, where to place it, and what pressure points it would hit.
